Traditional lodgings take travelers back in time.. The Scene
Brick--you will find it everywhere in this lovely 18th-century, plantation-style colonial home, such as on the welcoming, rounded front steps and on the pretty, residential-looking façade that bolsters the upstairs dormer windows. Inside it abounds as well, from the fireplace in the charmingly named Rooster's Den breakfast room to the walls in some of the accommodations.

The Details
The interior can feel a bit crowded, given the proliferation of collectibles throughout. But these thoughtfully chosen treasures are essential to this successful effort to recreate a traditional Colonial Williamsburg home. A pewter collection, framed samplers and a wood game table are among the notable décor. The four bedchambers are furnished with beautiful pineapple, four-poster beds and have private baths. The two-bedroom suites feature French doors that open onto a rooftop garden with views of the arbor covered in grapevine below. The inn is popular with an upscale B&B crowd (particularly state politicians) and is particularly busy during the summer and fall. Smoking is prohibited.
