Helped me out when I needed it! – Penny the manager worked with their distrubutor to get me a chiller when the one for my reef tank went out. I was not over charged and got a good deal especially since this was an emergency. None of the pet/fish stores carry this item in stock because it isn't sold that often. She was able to get it to me within two days. Also, if you want to talk to someone in the fish department who has an in depth knowledge of saltwater fish, I would recommend Dennis. He is the manager back there. I have been dealing with him for about 5 years.
Excellent No Frills Pet Store - Quality Products and Service – All Pet at Hilltop is the main store that I go to. My daughter has 4 Guinea Pigs, and the vet recommends to feed them Oxbow Western Timothy Hay and Oxbow Cavy Cuisine. All Pet is mainly the only pet store that sells this brand of Timothy Hay and Guinea Pig food. The store will order a 50lb. box of hay for me and all I pay for is the price of the hay and taxes. I don't pay for shipping. They call and let me know when the hay is in. No other pet store in this area does this besides All Pet. Also about 3 years ago we bought a pair of female dalmation hamsters that were sisters. They were very young but healthy. I have never seen hamsters colored like this pair at any other pet store other than All Pet at Hilltop. The hamsters were very tame, and were the most interesting hamsters I have ever seen. They both passed away recently, but they were the best pets and very easy to take care of. They brought us much joy. I bought they're cages and everything they ever needed from All Pet at Hilltop and they have very good prices. They are much cheaper than Animal Jungle and Petsmart. This store is a no frills store, but that means you won't be paying for ambience. The employees always seemed helpful to us. I love this store and would recommend it to anyone.
I bought an extra-tall baby gate from them, but it was such poor quality my dog was able to open the latch as well as push it out of the wall. After about 25 days of my dog discovering all of its faults I tried to return it. The owner stated that they can not accept it without the box, even though I had my receipt. I said "well who keeps a box for 30 days?" and she then changed her story to tell me "Well our return policy is 7 days." That is a terrible return policy. And for large objects like an extra-tall baby gate, it is ridiculous to request the box back. I had all the pieces and my receipt. They might have made money on this 1 baby gate, but they lost my business there forever.
Be very careful in the SALTWATER FISH DEPARTMENT – Again... We have been searching for a Stars and Stripes Puffer for quite sometime, and even though my wife and I discussed being very careful when buying from here, she thought she would surprise me when she saw they had one. How sweet. I dont have the heart to tell her she was sold a STRIPED DOGFACE PUFFER. Big difference all around, price, color...
So, now that Im started lets go further. On one occasion while asking questions in the store about compatibility of 2 fish, they didnt know, and actually had to call Fish Safari, and Jeff, the Reef Chief for the answers.
On nemerous occasions we have bought pre-mixed salt water from there, and on one occasion was so high in salt it might have destroyed the reef, had I not noticed how cloudy it was when it went into the tank, so we started checking it everytime we bought it, and found it to be high or low quite a bit.
Well, as far as long living healthy fish go....take a real real good close look at the fish in the tanks, ask if they are being treated for anything. We did this and had 2 different answers from 2 different associates. It also seems as if there is always something dead in the tanks or mere hours away from it. I know this is nature and sometimes it happens, but there are only like 10 or so tiny tanks there....dead fish are not good for the other fish sharing all the same water.
In conclusion, we have talked to the Manager, Penny several times and she has always been really helpful. Never have we gotten compensation or a refund, always a sorry and were looking for more experience help back there. Im not saying I wont buy from there, but it is the only store I take a Refractometer into. NEVER GET A THING FROM THE THEIR TANKS WITHOUT PUTTING IT IN A QUARRANTINE TANK FIRST. Finally, when you go in to look at fish grab a saltwaterfish book from the shelf, to double check everyting you really need to know, DO NOT rely on employee intelligence.
