Horrible experience, embarrassed to have taken a guest.
Horrible... Let me first say that I am typically very accommodating (timid?) in terms of poor service here and there. However, tonight was without a doubt "The Worst" I have experienced in some time (years). My family had received their dinner and 20 minutes later mine had still not arrived. The waitress explained that shrimp "takes much longer" plus they had to walk to Food Lion to get the shrimp. Of course, the manager later denied that, saying they were a large company and didn't know why she said that...
Being in business myself, I personally would have offered the entire meal free and given a coupon for the next visit in an effort to keep a customer. Not here....full price and NO apologies.... All I can say is....Wow.... Where is there a decent Mexican Restaurant in Virginia Beach???
HAIR IN MY FOOD!!!. Everything was great for my birthday dinner with family until I found 2 black hairs floating in the cheese at the bottom of my Mahi Mahi. Ronald, the manager was too busy to come to our table, then he made denials/excuses instead of an apology, as we checked out. According to Ronald he has hair flying around the restaurant, so it must be the customers fault. Oh wait, we were seated at the back of the restaurant, there were no other customers around us. This was our 2nd time there because we recently had a good lunch there. Obviously, WE WILL NEVER GO BACK!!! WATCH OUT FOR THE FLYING CUSTOMER HAIR!!!
great if they arent busy. I have been going to Plaza Azteca since they were a little hole in the wall place years ago. Since they have upgraded and became fancy, they have lost the most important thing.....customer service. We got there at 6 pm and was told the wait was 30 minutes. An hour later I ask the lady about the wait. She told me 15 minutes. It wouldn't have been an issue but I saw them seat people who came in after us with the same amout of people in our party. Not once but three times!!!! When I asked her about it , she just said sorry.... and proceeded to sit the other parties. By that time my two kids were starving and we left. I tried to contact the manager the next day....but he was to busy to come to the phone. awesome!!!! I'll take my business elsewhere.
My fiance and I are from Texas and visit the VA Beach area often. We first went to Plaza Azteca in January 2008. Although we had an unfriendly waiter, we were impressed with most of the food (especially the white cheese dip) and enjoyed possibly the best margarita I ever had. We returned when we were back in town the following May and had an all-around negative experience.
1) The queso was brought to us in a bowl that was only half full of the cheese. The bowl is already rather small and I didn't feel like we were getting our money's worth with the amount they gave us.
2) When we placed our order I asked our waitress how much it would be for some guacamole on the side. I was ordering a plate with a taco and like putting some guacamole on my taco. When she told me it would be $3.49 I told her that I didn't want the dip, I just wanted a small side of it. She told me they could not do that! They offer on the menu several sides such as sour cream, jalape?os, etc. for an extra $1 but guacamole was not an option. I started to get frustrated and showed her with my fingers just how small of an amount I would like, and she just said "nope, we only have one size." I was absolutely appalled as I have never been to a restaurant that was so unaccommodating. I would have appreciated a "let me check to see if there's anything we can do" but was completely denied what I wanted.
3) In Texas cheese enchiladas are very popular, so when the menu said that my combination plate came with an "enchilada" I carelessly assumed that would be a cheese enchilada. It turned out to be beef. I was not in the mood for beef. They should be specifying on their menu what kind of enchilada you're getting, or be asking you what kind you want! Not something the waitress bothered to do. And the sauce they put on top of the enchilada was yucky.
If I ever come back to this restaurant it will be to have their margaritas only. I will eat at a more friendly and accommodating establishment in the future.
Best frozen Margarita & slammin fajitas....deeeelicious!. We've visited a lot of places locally & nationwide and Plaza Azteca's Frozen Margaritas are the best. We actually had to send our drinks back, at a popular restaurant chain who confessed they were using a mix. There is a difference!! The mixed fajitas with steak, pork, shrimp, & chicken are excellent. The portions are generous too. One Plaza Azteca tasty Margarita will actually leave you with a buzz even after your meal is done. My husband who's a drinker too- agrees. They don't skimp. I've been a customer for over 10 years. My sons, now in their early & mid 20's still go because as boys they always loved the chicken nachos (I bet they've graduated to drinking their own margarittas by now).
Miss the white sauce and chile relleno...... I no longer live in the Va Beach area, and truly miss Plaza as a lunchtime and dinnertime favorite. The value per price ratio is a steal. Nothing fancy but good. I now live in SC and we have a large number of Mexican restaurants here, but NO ONE is doing a white sauce like Plaza, nor are their chile relleno's anything like what Plaza does. Look forward to "going home" to visit...Plaza will be on my list, if only for the white sauce and chile relleno....
Great Mexican food...Ladies Margaritas. I looooooved the place...Love...Mexican food it's my favorite specially when made by Hispanic/Mexican cooks! This is real mexican dinning! Cons? Well Im a high tolerance drinker and Margaritas can be little bit more "Macho" style...they taste good but they're too light...
Best Mexican in Va Beach. The food at Plaza Azteca is wonderful and the prices are great with top-notch service. I wouldn't eat Mexican anywhere else in the city!!
Great authentic mexican food. White sauce is to die for. Magaritas are excellent!
Family friendly and fun. I go back everytime I visit!
Editorial Review. Traditional Mexican eats are served at a reasonable price in a family-friendly setting.
