Enjoy elegant afternoon tea in this cozy hideaway perfect for bridal showers, bridge groups and birthday parties..
The Scene
Walking by the six-foot white rabbit, customers expect to enter a wonderland. No disappointments there: The front area is a gift shop with enough tea sets, jams, jellies, dessert toppings, cake mixes and numerous other cooking sauces sure to please Lewis Carroll's Alice. In the back, a sizable tea room is decorated with circular glass tables and floral-print chairs in bright blues, yellows and pinks that insist it's Easter year-round.
The Food
Most go for fresh-baked scones, assorted tea sandwiches or the almond pound cake that made owner Rowena Fullinwinder famous. All dishes change with the season: Winter, the menu might feature chicken salad seasoned with carrot jam; spring could bring a melon platter with open-faced cumber and dill on pumpernickel. A variety of teas are available to accompany the irresistible sweets. The rich turtle cake has won many a fan with its gooey caramel sauce, lush chocolate frosting and crown of chopped pecans.
