What People Are Saying About Amalfi Ristorante

In Short – Everything at the marketplace, in the bakery and on the menu--the pastas, the pestos, the ceramic dishes and the cherry DeBlasi wood bar--is imported from Italy. Wrought-iron tables and chairs are decorated with hand-painted tiles; no two designs of the 172 are alike. 16 different kinds of homemade gelato, and hard-to-find wines like Montepulciano-Scarlatta and Greco di Tufo make this place even more special.
Editor's Tips
- Save Money:
- Happy-hour drink specials run from 4pm to 7pm.
- Save Time:
- Gift baskets are available from the marketplace. They include traditional Italian cookies, candies, and imported primavera and marinara sauces.
- Where to Sit:
- On warm days, grab a table outdoors right on bustling Colley Avenue.
A sad, sad thing

It's my sad duty to inform you that this restaurant is now closed and up for lease. A moment of silence for a great place...
- Pros: Best Italian Ever
- Cons: It's closed
Horrible experiance!!

My family and I really appreciate great Italian food, and Almafis delivers. When we have guests from out of town and want to take them somewhere nice, Almafis has been our first choice. However, their service and preparation time has always been a little slow. Until this weekend I thought the food was worth it. Saturday night we had lots of family from out of town for my daughters sweet sixteen and we made a reservation several weeks in advance at Almafis. We arrived at 7pm and had ordered by 7:20. At 9pm our waitress told us that the food would be at least another 15 minutes. I attempted to address the 2 hour wait with the owner, but she was unapologetic, provided no reason for the long wait, and attempted to blame the waitress. The owner never visited any of the tables and seemed more interested in smoking and talking to a friend at the bar. We left after a two hour wait still hungry. She singlehandedly ruined my daughters once in a lifetime occasion.
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Service and Mgmt
best Italian restaurant
by braccioleman
i grew up with immigrant Italian grandparents who lived with us.............our whole neighborhood in Ny was mostly Italian.......The restaurants were the real deal and i have been to Italy and My grandpa had an Italian restaurant in Bensonhurst Brooklyn NY ......I say this to qualify myself on what is authentic Italian Cuisine and believe me Amalfis is the best in Hampton Roads.......Proprietor Angelo and his lovely wife Marcia are always gracious and like family.........i highly reccomend this great dining experience...........Bill Pepe(the Braccioleman)
- Pros: food, ambience, hosts

They want to make you happy

Such nice people! Such great food! I've enjoyed lunch several times, and dinner too. I went with a picky eater who wanted fried zucchini. It wasn't on the menu, but I asked if they could make some up, and out it came! Delicious, and I was a hero.
- Pros: The most cooperative kitchen
- Cons: The walls make the place noisy
Finally a Real Italian meal
by naplesgrad
after many years of searching for a real Italian Restaurant. Finally one is found. The service was prompt friendly and the food was outstanding. There did seem to be many changes with the employees that work there, however management is run the ITALIAN way and that explains that. Not a lot of people in this area are use to grease on the elbows. Angelo has definately brought Napoli to Colley Ave. and its been long over due.
