The Real Deal in Deli. For the real deal in Deli 58 Deli is the place to go. The portions are enormous so come hungry. The wait staff unlike New York is cordial and the wait although there is one almost every time I go is not bad. If franchises ever become available, I am definitely in.
Extremly overpriced. My wonderful girlfriend and I stopped at Rt 58 diner on VA Beach blvd. We wanted some lunch meat to make sandwiches at home. We ordered a 1/2 lb of salami and a 1/2 lb of american cheese. The total and I almost choked when I heard it was 14.95, that's almost fifteen dollars for 1 lb of meat. When we got home the salami was basically bologna. I called and asked if they sliced bologna by mistake and she informed me that they do not carry bologna. My girlfriend and I disagree, it was bologna. I would stay away from this place if you want any money left in your wallet. Hope you all have a great day.
The best you can get outside of New York. There is a little FAQ section on the back of the menu and one of the questions is why do they have the best pickles around; Answer is because its not from here. And that pretty much sums everything up. They actually drive up to New York to get there meat and bread and pretty much everything else except for the soda I would imagine. I grew up on Long Island and worked in a deli for quite a few years and there meat is better than the boars head meat we were selling there. I know we have all seen the authentic N.Y. pizza or the N.Y. style Bagels to for the most part be slightly disappointed. But here I was floored by the incredible sandwich and knish I had. And on top of it all the service is great and friendly as well.
Authentic New York. My boyfriend is from New York and always raves about the food, so I took him to this little diner. We both thought the food was amazing!! Some of the only sandwiches we've had that even can compare to real New York food, and that's straight from the mouth of a New York native. The owner is from New York and seems to be there alot and everyone is so friendly. The sandwiches are huge, and you can get Kosher stuff there as well. Make this place your next stop for lunch!!!
