Visited Murphy's for lunch after the Shamrock 8k. The place was packed! Easily found a seat at the bar. The bartender was very efficient, even considering the crowd she was dealing with. The shrimp app and fish sandwich were great! Nice beer selection. Would definitely go back.
Overall a ver good experience. Wait staff attentive, food was good, portions were not gigantic. Live entertainment. I would go back again. For a sports bar, I would consider it excellent.
If you like soccer games, or any other sports for that matter, this is the place to go. I took my wife to see the U.S. soccer team play (it is an official U.S. soccer bar). We both agreed: this place has a great vibe among other things. The food was amazing and they even have outdoor seating with a bar. And the Beer just kept on coming and it all tasted great. They should have an option to get pitchers, though.. since I had to keep asking for beer after beer (we like our drinks). I will definitely be back when the next soccer game is going on.
As Irish pubs go, the fare was pretty standard - fish & chips, reubens, bangers & mash, etc. Very large place - crowded on weekends. Virginia has yet to pass no-smoking laws, so there was nothing separating the bar from the "non-smoking" section of the restaurant.
We were tremendously impressed by the quality of the service, however. Our waiter was extremely courteous and attentive, and when we explained a food allergy issue pertinent to one of our family members, he not only checked with the kitchen staff to ensure our needs would be met, but brought the executive chef to the table so that we could discuss the food preparation with him first-hand. We've found this level of conscientiousness to be a rare thing in beach venues, so were much appreciative. We would recommend Murphy's on the basis of the customer service alone - the Smithwick's was an added bonus!
The service is great even on a slow night it make you feel very welcome!
EXACTLY what an Irish Pub should be! Murphy's has it's own parking lot, and is close enough to the beach to be an easy walk.
Good food and service. Will go back next time I am at Virginia Beach
Over this past weekend in VA Beach, I visited Murphy's 3 separate times as I just couldn't seem to stay away. I would agree with some other reviews that the interior is a bit dated but it has personality and the service that we received from Mike (Bartender) was excellent and personal. Selection of Irish beers on tap and Manger's cider pleased both my wife and I. Also, the mixed drinks were raved about by my father and mother in law. The live band on Saturday night was surprising for an Irish bar as they were a very talented country cover band (I'm a huge country music fan) and the diverse crowd were enjoying the atmosphere. My party, which was also very diverse in ages and tastes, all had a great time. As mentioned in other reviews, the food was good, especially the tuna bites and the Bangers and mash were respectable.
It was good, but sit outside. The inside felt very dated. The outside was more our style.
I got the Turkey Wrap and the other three folks I was with got the Fish and Chips. Everything was good. No complaints. The food was good. The service was ok. When you sit outside the bartender has to run the tables and the bar, which seemed like a lot of work.
