Irish pubs are amongst my favorite places wherever I go, so the same was in Virginia Beach. I had my dinner at the bar, bar waitress / bartender was very helpful and kind. She gave me some good recommendations and I ended up having a very good dinner for a very reasonable amount of money. The food was tasty and hot, Draft Guinness was perfectly smooth and cold and atmosphere in the pub was good. What more do I need to say? The only drawback was that it was hard to get a parking spot but after couple of minutes I got one.
We ended up at Murphy’s after we were turned away at Tautogs. Our party included three adults and to children. It was a pub type atmosphere with a huge wood-burning fireplace in the middle. We received a seat close to the fireplace, which was fabulous! The ambiance of the fireplace was really pleasing. The food was also very good. We have burgers, salad, and a seafood dish. All were very tasty. Overall, this was a perfect place to dine after a long day of activities.
I've gone here a couple more times and I thought I would add that the Irish Breakfast is delish! The brunch is now $9, not big deal. And you can eat outside, which is awesome!
We had Irish stew, bangers and mash and beer-battered fish'n'chips-all very tasty. Kids loved it too!
Visited Murphy's for lunch after the Shamrock 8k. The place was packed! Easily found a seat at the bar. The bartender was very efficient, even considering the crowd she was dealing with. The shrimp app and fish sandwich were great! Nice beer selection. Would definitely go back.
Overall a ver good experience. Wait staff attentive, food was good, portions were not gigantic. Live entertainment. I would go back again. For a sports bar, I would consider it excellent.
If you like soccer games, or any other sports for that matter, this is the place to go. I took my wife to see the U.S. soccer team play (it is an official U.S. soccer bar). We both agreed: this place has a great vibe among other things. The food was amazing and they even have outdoor seating with a bar. And the Beer just kept on coming and it all tasted great. They should have an option to get pitchers, though.. since I had to keep asking for beer after beer (we like our drinks). I will definitely be back when the next soccer game is going on.
As Irish pubs go, the fare was pretty standard - fish & chips, reubens, bangers & mash, etc. Very large place - crowded on weekends. Virginia has yet to pass no-smoking laws, so there was nothing separating the bar from the "non-smoking" section of the restaurant.
We were tremendously impressed by the quality of the service, however. Our waiter was extremely courteous and attentive, and when we explained a food allergy issue pertinent to one of our family members, he not only checked with the kitchen staff to ensure our needs would be met, but brought the executive chef to the table so that we could discuss the food preparation with him first-hand. We've found this level of conscientiousness to be a rare thing in beach venues, so were much appreciative. We would recommend Murphy's on the basis of the customer service alone - the Smithwick's was an added bonus!
The service is great even on a slow night it make you feel very welcome!
