watch out for servers overcharging. Make sure you bring cash to pay. Went with a large group and the server charged 20% tip even though the menu clearly says 18% for parties larger than 8. We specifically instructed how much to charge credit cards (included both taxes and tip), and he STILL added 20% on top of the bill! I ended up paying almost 60% in the resulting tip! And service was mediocre, at best, anyway. Beware!
Creative menu, cosmopolitan atmosphere. Very creative and interesting menu of small plates and tapas--all extremely good. Service was excellent. Low-lit, cosmopolitan atmosphere.......trendy people....not stuffy though. Very busy and bustling in the Ghent district of Norfolk. Parking is easy behind the restaurant and is free. I would have given this a higher rating if it weren't so smokey in there (smoke-free would be ideal).
An Amazing Experierence. I took my girlfriend to bardo after a play had let out at the Generic Theater. The service there is warm and friendly, and the food is even better. We both had eggdrop soup and brie stuffed pork tenderloin. All I can say was: amazing! The wine list was awesome, so many good selections. I would highly recommend this place.
The Ultimate Spot. An evening at Bardo's is simply like no other. This place is simply marvelous! I was visiting Norfolk and was anxious to see what my friend was raving about. Upon entrance I instantly fell love. Everything from the striking red walls , the candlelit eating area , as well as the excellent service was nothing short of perfect. The food was delicious and drinks were delicious (we really enjoyed the Long Beach) and the romantic decorum like no other I have ever experienced. I cannot wait to return to Norfolk.
A true gem.
This is our favorite restaurant in Norfolk. The menu will please every palate, from the slightly eccentric to the traditional. The ambience is sexy and intimate, though it can get a bit noisy on very busy nights. Service has almost always been top-notch, with the exception of one night when it appeared the place was understaffed. That was the only time we've seen any slip, but the waiter was sure to make sure we left happy. The food is mouthwatering and worth every penny...the prices are JUST right...
You're really missing out if you've never been to this jewel!
This place is HIP!. This place is hip! Simplicity at it's finest. Stark red walls, an open kitchen, a spacious dinning room, and a cool little waiting "lounge". The food is great and service to match. An extensive wine and drink menu with a liqour list to rival any big city bar. I can't narrow down what I liked best, it was all too great. I can't wait to return.
Very trendy. If you're looking for a great place to chill, have some drinks and talk with friends, this place is PERFECT. My cosmos were to the tee and my dinner plate looked all most too pretty to eat. The food was delicious and melted in your mouth. The overall presentation of the restaurant was very impressive. The modern decorum fit the atmosphere perfectly. This seemed more of a Adult friendly restaurant. You might want to leave the kids at home to maintain the atmosphere.
A Fun Night Out. A night out at Bardo's is like no other night in Tidewater. Perfect for a group occasion as all share in the tapis style. From bar preparations to dishes from the kitchen,I would rate excellent with the service very warm. I look forward to my next visit to Bardo's.
Asian inspiration takes tapas dining to a higher plane in this sleek and daring new hotspot..
The Scene:
Bardo draws an eclectic, artsy clientele that could just as easily arrive post-theater or pre-club. Large, uninterrupted swaths of vivid color, sharp angles and the use of natural materials like wood and stone create a hard, Zen-minimalist feel that's softened by subtle lighting and myriad tiny votive candles. Patrons have plenty of room to mingle in front of the well-stocked bar (tucked neatly into a corner of the room) which leads almost without transition into an open kitchen and small-scale dining area.
The Food
Broken into four levels representing starters, entrees, sides and desserts, the menu of artistically prepared small-plate dishes ranges from an adventurous ceviche three-way platter to the humble dollar chicken dinner. Served with paper thin, tempura-fried onion rings and from-scratch wasabi mashed potatoes, the Thai-rubbed N.Y. strip steak is perfectly seared; crispy-fried black tiger shrimp wrapped in wonton skins is dramatic and flavorful. Adding a whimsical touch, yummy chocolate chopsticks appropriately accent divine dim sum doughnuts.
