good, cheap and fast. One of our favorites. We esp like the tamales and the fajitas. Always good food, great service and reasonable prices.
Fastest meal on the planet!. First, you will be in and out in 20 minutes regardless of Mother's Day or any other special day. We now giggle about it taking too long if it has been 5 minutes waiting on the food. Besides this, the food is incredible and very reasonable. I like everything they have, but the burritos tapatios is spicy goodness.
Not Mexican Food.
We just went to Mi Hogar, the reviews were great, but like the other person commented, probably written by friends and family. I cannot believe that it was supposed to be Mexican food. It was, dry, tasteless and nasty. We will never go back! I got #2, the Taco, Chalupa and Enchalada plate. The taco didn't taste like a taco, it didn't taste like anything. the shell was stale and tasted like cardboard. The enchalada didn't have any taste to it either. My husband had the CNA special or whatever it was called that came with one of everything. He wouldn't even eat it... dry nasty food. I don't know what kind of cheese they use, but it's not cheese, it tasted like some sort of goat cheese. The Salsa was runny and wasn't that great. They only thing they didn't screw up were the chips, but anyone can open a bag and fill a dish.
Service, was fast and seating was prompt. Other than that, not worth the money! Not even worth the visit. If I could I wouldn't even give this place 1/2 a star! Disgusting!
Best Mexican food you'll get in VA.
I'm going to tell you right now that Virginia is not the place to get great tasting AUTHENTIC Mexican food, but this restaurant sure does come close. Please don't listen to the guy with the bad review who didn't even know how to spell carne ASADA, little does he know that when you eat carne ASADA not AZADA, you're supposed to put it in a tortilla when some salsa, roll it like a taco, and yum-hence the bit of dryness in the meat! Yes, that's coming from a true Mexican!
The place is pretty good, great atmosphere, awesone deals, and excellent service. I forget when Margarita day is-maybe Tuesday...so my advice go on Tuesdays!!!
Nice date place. My boyfriend and I like this place. We like Mexican and Mi Hogar is one of the best out there. Service was fast, the staff was friendly and we go back whenever we get the chance.
Best Mexican Restaurant compare to at least other 5. It's a great restaurant. Food is delicious. How i know? is because i have been to at least 5 other more and none of those can do better. Is a family oriented and good customers skills. You eat a lot for a cheaper price. Your belly will be full. No other restaurant can beat the prices. Is a small place but food is great. Is very clean. They do not keep the salsa in cans like another review i read. Chips are fresh. If you being around like me, all over the spanish countries, you will no best.
Delicious, inexpensive Mexican food that can even fill a student on a budget..
The Scene
The friendly staff delivers Mexican food quickly and efficiently, only leaving time to munch a few salsa-dipped chips. This little family-style restaurant is popular with Old Dominion students, which is hardly surprising since the food is better (and cheaper) than in the dorms.
The Food
Daily specials pack a lot of food into a little price, with tacos, burritos and combination platters making up an expansive menu. Freshly made chips and two kinds of salsa hit the table before you can say "por favor." Hard-shell or soft-tortilla tacos are filled with savory meats like ground beef, shredded chicken or carnitas, cheese and lettuce. Pair them with an enchilada, burrito, rice and refried beans, and you've got enough food for lunch the next day. Wash everything down with an ice-cold Negra Modelo or Cuervo margarita and you're livin' la vida happy.
MEXICAN'T. We went to MI HOGAR based on the reviews but apparently they were writen by friends and family. Personally, i don't write reviews but they forced my hand in doing so. The reviews were inaccurate to say the least. The chips were good but the salsa was in a container in the hallway, was bland, watery and covered by a napkin...the good thing is they were free! My friends and I ordered the CARNE AZADA, CARNITAS AND FAJITAS. The carne azada was thin, dry and bland. The Carnitas(pork bites) were dry and tasted like they were leftovers from the lunch special. The fajitas were half way decent but still not what we expected from the raving reviews we read. The service and the parking were good. In summary if you have tried good mexican cusine then this is clearly not the place for you.
Superior Mexican Food. I came here from the Chicago Suburbs and experienced the best Mexican food outside of Mexico. Chicago has a tremendous hispanic population. So when I tell you this place is authentic and yummy you can believe it.
Best Mexican South of the Pennisula. Great Mexican food. Fell in love with this place the first time I tried it. Salsa is always fresh with noticable bits of fresh cilantro and a nice cumin kick without being burning hot. Best Chile Rellenos period. Never dry, and a nice mild chile flavor. This place is MEGA kid friendly, my toddler knows half the wait staff by name. Time permitting the staff often comes by to distract the younger patrons while there parents are trying to finish their meal.
