The food was absoltely delicious and the service was impeccable. We were seated quickly and our waitress was about as professional as I have seen. The food came out quick and our bill was a lot less than we thought for the quality of the food and service. The location was very nice too. The only thing I would change is have the tables a little farther apart. I WILL definitely dine there again and recommend it highly to anyone looking for great food at a terrific price along with stupendous and friendly service.
Great meal ending in a romantic evening..... Our table was in a great secluded area, but if we'd been seated elsewhere I may not have been as impressed. The tables are close together and don't lend to an air of intimacy. The food was impeccable and my fiance and I had a wonderful meal. I don't remember exactly what we ate.....could be the fact he proposed to me out on the lawn behind the restaurant after dinner has clouded my memory.
You can't go wrong. My husband and I celebrated our 1st anniversary in July 2004 and will definitely be back! The other reviews (except for the unfortunate gentleman who spoke of his wife's "burnt, very burnt salmon"), say it all. Outstanding service, delicious menu (though it caters to those of more traditional tastes), lovely atmosphere...right down to the fresh flowers on each table. You will need to talk a little softer than normal unless you don't mind your neighbors listening in!
Great atmosphere. I TOOK MY HUSBAND OUT FOR HIS BIRTHDAY, IT WAS OUR FIRST TIME THERE.WE BOTH WAS IMPRESS WITH EVERYTHING, THE FOOD WAS GREAT, WE SAID WE WILL BE COMING BACK AND TELL OUR FRIENDS WHAT A AWESOME TIME WE HAD, BEAUTIFUL, ROMANTIC, GOOD EATING.
One of the oldest family owned and operated restaurants in Virginia specializes in seafood and Southern hospitality..
The Scene
This charming cabin (built in 1937) with its cozy fireplace has long been a local dining favorite. The wooden deck has lovely views of the Lynnhaven River; an open dining room with 20-foot A-frame ceilings recalls a small church from days gone by. The small bar off to the left serves as a holding area; with 60 different kinds of wine and 30 brands of beer, it's not a bad place to wait.
The Food
Since 1939, this Virginia Beach mainstay has built a following by having the best jumbo fantail shrimp in Tidewater. In addition to its reputation, the split shrimp comes with a house orange sauce that's like Thousand Island dressing, but better. Other seafood entrees fare just as well. Lobster bisque gets smooth flavoring from a shot of bourbon; filet of flounder--golden on top; snow white in the middle--is overstuffed with shrimp, oysters or backfin crabmeat. Family recipes predominate. Don't bother asking for the secret ingredients. Just sit back and enjoy them.
Steinhilbers. I have been going to this restaurant since the early 70's and I can say this is the best and most of all consistently great food, seafood, selections on menu, service, etc. all catagories rate tops.
So so.
The salmon was burnt, very burnt
My wife was almost done with her meal till the waitress came back to see how we were doing and that is because I hailed her.
The service started out great and ended up poor
The fried shrimp was very good
re: reservations.
The review was misleading as this restaurant does NOT accept reservations - only for parties of 6-8 or more.
I don't know if I would consider it a "romantic" restaurant though.
However, the food is excellent - especially their famous shrimp.
I would recommend this restaurant to friends.
Shrimp Appeal. The best shrimp around - and a good carry-out value! Good food and great service!
sex in the city. Food was great, fantastic, wonderful. We were seated in front of the fire place which was great but the tables were too close together and this did not lend itself to privacy. Nice view out of the windows if you could see that far.
