A great independent movie theater in Downtown Norfolk by Michele F. at InsiderPages
Contributor at Insider Pages
The Naro is one of the oldest working movie theaters in Norfolk. It usually hosts those hard to find, independent films that often aren't shown on the major big screen. The theater has an upstairs balcony where you can sit instead of on the floor seats, and their food and snacks are very inexpensive. The screen is covered by a huge red velvet curtain that opens when the movie starts. It really makes going to the movies fun again, and makes you nostalgic for an era that has long since passed.
Historic theater alternates between quality first-run movies, cult faves and independent cinema.

In Short
This movie theater in the Ghent section of downtown Norfolk is reputedly among the oldest theaters on the East Coast. Since the early 1970s, it has functioned as the art house and revival theater in the funky neighborhood. First-run cinema is sprinkled in with a program of independent, foreign and limited-release features. The old-fashioned single-screen theater has a 70mm screen, Dolby stereo sound and comfy seats.
